General Electric CompanyElectrical Distribution and Control/GE MetersProblem:The engineering data for hundreds of transformer products that this Division of GE supplied were out of date. The source data was not centralized in any way. The format of existing data sheets and engineering data varied from one product to the next. The Sales force needed and up-to-date, comprehensive source of product data. They needed the flexibility of loose data sheets with the “shelf-life” of a bound catalog. |
Solution:A data sheet template was designed to accommodate all product categories, with standardized tables for engineering data, specifications, regulatory agency approvals, reference drawings, and accessories. A three-ring binder with pre-printed product category tabs was designed to hold the individual product data sheets and allow for easy updates. New photographs were taken of all products on a consistent setup. New orthogonal dimensioned illustrations were created for each product, allowing rapid comparison of models. |
Results:The resulting Buyer's Guide was introduced to the Sales force at an upcoming annual meeting to very appreciative recipients. Customer feedback was very positive as well. |
